Experienced in working in a community setting with frail older people and people with disabilities. You need to be able to coordinate and implement effective home and community-based services to clients. This will involve ensuring clients receive a quality, professional service that meets their specific ongoing needs.

You need a broad knowledge of older peoples’ care needs and domiciliary care services.

Other skills required are effective communication and advocacy and knowledge of Care Standards.

Personal Care:

• Bathing, washing, washing hair, combing hair, shaving (male clients) mouth care, dressing, undressing, assist with toileting.

General care:

• Supervising the taking of medication, cooking or preparing meals, washing up, shopping or accompany client to shops, clinics or hospital visits etc. Laundry, light cleaning, other duties as agreed.

A small number of clients may need bed baths and management of pressure areas. It may be necessary to use hoists and other manual handling equipment.

Care Workers also need to be prepared to observe any changes or deterioration in the clients health care needs and report these to the team leaders they will then forward the information to the Social services (if referred clients) or the care Manager (if private clients).
